“Peter the Great” Fabergé Egg – Commemorative Coin

This exclusive silver coin, partially gilded and colorized, is inspired by the 1903 Imperial Fabergé egg “Peter the Great,” created for Tsar Nicholas II as an Easter gift for Empress Alexandra Feodorovna.

The original masterpiece, crafted in the workshops of Peter Carl Fabergé by master jeweler Michael Perkhin, commemorated the 200th anniversary of Saint Petersburg, founded in 1703 by Peter the Great. Designed in Rococo style, the egg featured miniature paintings of Saint Petersburg, portraits of Peter the Great and Nicholas II, and a surprise inside — a miniature sculpture of Peter by the Neva River. Today, the original egg is housed at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (USA).

Between 1885 and 1917, Fabergé created around 50 Imperial Easter eggs for the Russian royal family. After the Russian Revolution, the firm was nationalized and many eggs were later sold abroad. Surviving examples are now displayed in major museums and prestigious collections worldwide, achieving multimillion prices at auction.
